This month, the FCA launched a new campaign, In confidence, with confidence, encouraging those working in the financial services sector to report potential wrongdoing to the regulator. The campaign offers information for businesses and a digital toolkit for industry bodies, consumer groups and whistleblowing groups to help individuals find the confidence to step forward when they detect bad practices.
The FCA says it has been investing in increased resourcing to support whistle-blower interaction, including increasing the headcount on its whistleblowing team and developing a confidential web form to provide an easy way for whistleblowers to get in touch.
Whistleblowers that report to the FCA will have a dedicated case manager. They can meet with the FCA to discuss their concerns and can receive optional regular updates throughout the investigation. Every report the FCA receives is reviewed and the FCA will protect individual whistleblowers’ identities, however, individuals can choose to remain anonymous, and many people do.
Under FCA whistleblowing rules, firms are required to have arrangements in place for employees to raise concerns, and to guarantee these concerns are handled appropriately and confidentially. As a supplier of compliance eLearning courses for over 10 years, we understand the importance of having these arrangements in place as a key part of good governance and to help organisations to comply with FCA regulation.
