ESG Module 4 - Governance Aspects of ESG

The ESG programme consists of 5 modules and is designed to give users an introduction to ESG (Environmental Social and Governance), a closer look into each aspect of ESG and how ESG can and should be integrated into departmental strategy. This set of modules is geared towards UK civil service employees although the programme would suit anyone with an interest in ESG in the corporate landscape. There is no doubt that the importance of ESG considerations will continue to grow with external pressures from climate change and the need to become more sustainable. Completing this module will give users an excellent foundation in understanding corporate ESG considerations.

This module is all about the G aspect of ESG, in other words Governance. We will start by exploring the principles of good corporate governance, the roles of boards and executive leadership and introduce disclosure and transparency in corporate reporting. We will then look at anti-corruption and ethics in the workplace and how to implement such policies/ practices including establishing whistleblower mechanisms. Questions and interactive activites support the user's learning throughout. The module can be completed standalone or as Module 4 of the ESG in the Civil Service programme.

By the end of this module, you will :

  • Be able to recognise the key principles of good corporate governance
  • Understand the roles of boards and executive leadership
  • Be able to explain why disclosure, transparency, promoting anti-corruption and ethics are important and how companies can implement these
